How to manage time for

JEE Main & Advanced

Time Managment is a skill

1. The toppers of the examination do not solve any different kind of material. They just solve the material provided in a different way which the remaining students do not. During their preparation, they develop some strategies and a unique skill set which enable them to achieve success.

2. Solve more problems to increase speed. If you solve more problems, you are using the set of formulae repeatedly, hence you can remember them easily. Also this helps to automate some parts of the problem solving for which you need not spend any extra mental energy.

3. Some concepts demand more problem solving and some less. Pay attention to the quality of problems you are solving and not only to the quantity. Solving less questions leads to a state of limbo in the examination where things won’t click and your scores would suffer.

4. Select the set of problems during the practice session in such a way there is a good balance of easy, medium and difficult problems. For some entrance examinations, doing till the medium level of difficulty is enough but for JEE Main and Advanced examinations, you need to boost your preparation. So try to solve problems that are a notch above your comfort level.

5. While following the previous point, make sure that you are first able to solve the easy questions, otherwise it makes no sense. If you are unable to solve NCERT questions, then it does not make sense that you jump to Irodov. Know your current level, strengths, weaknesses and proceed accordingly.

6. Solve problems in a timed manner. Fix a time period such as 1 hour and try to solve maximum problems in that time period without any distraction. Gradually try to increase the number of problems solved in this duration. This will ensure that you develop a good problem solving speed and this can be done daily.

7. When solving problems, do them in a serious manner similar to an examination setting. Focus and try to simulate the examination room as much as possible. This makes sure that you are mentally getting ready for D-Day from the very beginning.

8. You should be able to concentrate and maintain your focus for a longer time. This is the key to problem solving. Focus on what you are doing at the moment and do not deviate to anything else. This requires long term practice and requires patience to notice the results. Do not feel that you have done enough only by solving a few problems.

9. Set your priorities. If you are getting distracted by your mobile phone, turn it off during the problem solving session. Make sure you are in your best health conditions so that you can focus and tackle the problems with a clear head. Be patient and trust the process.
