Hi there! I’m Kalpit Veerwal, the JEE topper who scored a perfect 360/360 in JEE Main and started AcadBoost to help students like you. NTA JEE Main is the exam that opens doors to engineering colleges in India. More than 9 lakh students take it every year, and I’ve been there—I cracked it and got into IIT Bombay. I’m here to explain everything about NTA JEE Main in a simple way—what it is, how it works, and how you can get ready.

"NTA JEE Main is your first big step to a top engineering college—let’s do it right!" — Kalpit Veerwal
NTA JEE Main is the Joint Entrance Examination Main, run by the National Testing Agency, or NTA, in India. It’s the exam you take to get into colleges like NITs, IIITs, and other good engineering schools. If you score high, you can also qualify for JEE Advanced to try for IITs. Over 9 lakh students give it a shot every year, and it happens two times—usually early in the year and then a few months later. I scored full marks in it—it’s your chance to shine too.
The NTA JEE Main exam has 90 questions—30 each in Physics, Chemistry, and Math. It’s worth 300 marks total, and you get 3 hours to finish it. Each subject has 20 multiple-choice questions—you get 4 marks for a right answer and lose 1 mark if it’s wrong. There are also 10 numerical questions per subject, but you only need to answer 5 of them—4 marks for right answers, no penalty for mistakes. I focused on getting the easy questions right first—it helped me a lot.
The syllabus for NTA JEE Main comes from your Class 11 and 12 NCERT books. Physics includes topics like Mechanics, Electricity, and Modern Physics—these are big ones. Chemistry covers Physical, Organic, and Inorganic Chemistry—think reactions and formulas. Math has Algebra, Calculus, and Coordinate Geometry—you’ll need to practice these a lot. You can check the full syllabus on jeemain.nta.nic.in—I spent more time on Mechanics and Organic Chemistry because they show up often.
NTA JEE Main happens two times a year—once early in the year and once a few months later. The exact dates change every year, but NTA puts them up on jeemain.nta.nic.in a few months before the exam. You can take both sessions, and they’ll count your best score. The results come out about 10 to 15 days after each exam—I got mine quick and used it to plan my next steps.
To prepare, start by getting the syllabus from NTA’s website—it shows you what to study. Use books like HC Verma for Physics, NCERT for Chemistry, and RD Sharma for Math—AcadBoost’s free notes have all the topics too. Practice with old JEE Main papers—you can find them on NTA’s site. Try mock tests once or twice a week—I got better with every test I took. Spend an hour a day revising formulas and weak spots. Sleep well and stay relaxed—it makes a difference.
NTA JEE Main is your ticket to top colleges like NITs, where you can get jobs paying Rs 15-20 lakh a year. If you score above the cutoff—usually around 90-100—you can try JEE Advanced for IITs. Over 2.5 lakh students qualify for Advanced every year, and I was one of them—it took me to IIT Bombay. Your score here sets up your future.
NTA JEE Main is your big opportunity—start with the syllabus, books, and practice. My AcadBoost blog has free notes and tips to help you out. You’ve got this—begin today!
