What is JEE Main Session 2?

"JEE Main Session 2 is your second shot at a great score—let’s make it count!" — Kalpit Veerwal

JEE Main Session 2 is the second round of the JEE Main exam, run by the National Testing Agency (NTA). JEE Main happens twice a year—Session 1 early in the year and Session 2 a few months later. It’s your chance to get into colleges like NITs, IIITs, or qualify for JEE Advanced to aim for IITs. You can take both sessions, and NTA counts your best score. I took it once and got 360/360—it’s a big opportunity to boost your rank.

JEE Main Session 2 Exam Dates

JEE Main Session 2 usually happens a few months after Session 1. The NTA announces the exact dates on jeemain.nta.nic.in a few months before, and the exam lasts a few days with different shifts. Registration opens a couple of months earlier and stays open for about a month. Results come out 10 to 15 days after the exam ends. I planned for my session by checking the dates early—keep an eye on the NTA website to stay updated.

JEE Main Session 2 Registration

To register for JEE Main Session 2, go to jeemain.nta.nic.in when registration opens. If you took Session 1, log in with your old application number and password—update your details if needed. If it’s your first time, click “New Registration,” fill in your name, email, and phone number, and set a password. You’ll need your Class 10 marksheet, a photo, a signature, and an ID like Aadhaar—pay the fee online, around Rs 1000 for general boys, Rs 800 for girls, Rs 500 for reserved categories. I got it done smoothly by preparing everything ahead.

JEE Main Session 2 Syllabus

The syllabus for JEE Main Session 2 is the same as Session 1—it comes from your Class 11 and 12 NCERT books. Physics covers Mechanics, Electricity, and Modern Physics—big topics to focus on. Chemistry includes Physical, Organic, and Inorganic Chemistry—think reactions and formulas. Math has Algebra, Calculus, and Coordinate Geometry—practice these a lot. Check the full syllabus on jeemain.nta.nic.in—I spent extra time on Mechanics and Organic Chemistry because they’re key.

JEE Main Session 2 Exam Pattern

The exam for JEE Main Session 2 has 90 questions—30 each in Physics, Chemistry, and Math. It’s worth 300 marks, and you get 3 hours to finish. Each subject has 20 multiple-choice questions—4 marks for a right answer, 1 mark off if it’s wrong. There are also 10 numerical questions per subject, but you only need to answer 5—4 marks for right answers, no penalty for mistakes. I made sure to get the easy ones right first—it helped me score high.

How to Prepare for JEE Main Session 2

To prepare, start with the syllabus from NTA’s website—it tells you what to study. Use books like HC Verma for Physics, NCERT for Chemistry, and RD Sharma for Math—AcadBoost’s free notes cover everything too. Practice with old JEE Main papers from NTA’s site. Try mock tests once or twice a week—I got better every time I did them. Spend an hour a day revising formulas and weak areas. Sleep well and stay calm—it helps you do your best.

Why JEE Main Session 2 Matters

JEE Main Session 2 is your chance to improve your score or try again if Session 1 didn’t go well. A good score can get you into NITs with jobs paying Rs 15-20 lakh a year, or qualify you for JEE Advanced for IITs—over 2.5 lakh students make it to Advanced each year. I used my session to get into IIT Bombay—it’s a big deal for your future.
