What is JEE Main Registration?

"JEE Main registration is your ticket to the exam—get it right, and you’re on your way!" — Kalpit Veerwal

JEE Main registration is the process where you sign up to take the JEE Main exam. It’s run by the National Testing Agency, or NTA, and happens online. This exam is your chance to get into colleges like NITs, IIITs, or even qualify for JEE Advanced to try for IITs. You have to fill a form, upload some documents, and pay a fee—all on the NTA website. I registered once, got it done right, and it led me to IIT Bombay—it’s your starting point too.

When Does JEE Main Registration Happen?

JEE Main registration opens two times a year because the exam happens twice—once early in the year and once a few months later. The NTA puts the dates on jeemain.nta.nic.in a few months before each session. Usually, registration starts a couple of months before the exam and stays open for about a month. You can register for one session or both, and they take your best score. I applied for one session and made it count—keep an eye on the NTA site for the latest dates.

How to Apply for JEE Main

Applying for JEE Main is all online. First, go to jeemain.nta.nic.in and find the registration link. Click on “New Registration” if it’s your first time—fill in your name, email, phone number, and make a password. You’ll get an application number—save it. Then, log in with that number and password to fill the form. Add your details like school info, address, and pick your exam cities. Upload your photo and signature—make sure they’re clear. Finally, pay the fee online with a card or net banking—I did it step-by-step and it worked smoothly.

What You Need for JEE Main Registration

You’ll need a few things to register. Get your Class 10 marksheet ready—it shows your basic details. You need a photo of yourself—recent, passport-size—and a scan of your signature. Both should be in JPG format, not blurry. Have an ID like your Aadhaar card or passport handy—you’ll enter its number. You also need a working email and phone number—NTA sends updates there. If you’re from a reserved category like SC or OBC, keep your certificate details ready, but you don’t need to upload it—I kept everything organized and it was quick.

Tips for JEE Main Registration

Here are some tips to make it easy. Check the NTA website for the syllabus and rules before you start—AcadBoost’s free notes can help you plan too. Fill the form carefully—wrong details can cause trouble later. Make sure your photo and signature are the right size—NTA rejects blurry ones. Pay the fee online—general boys pay Rs 1000, girls Rs 800, and reserved categories Rs 500. Save the confirmation page after you’re done—you’ll need it. I double-checked everything and had no issues.

Why JEE Main Registration Matters

Getting your JEE Main registration right is key—it lets you take the exam that can get you into NITs or qualify you for IITs through JEE Advanced. Over 2.5 lakh students move to Advanced each year, and I was one of them—it started with registration. A good score here can mean a great college and jobs paying Rs 15-20 lakh a year—it’s your first big move.
