How to Crack JEE Main with Self-Study

Thu Mar 13, 2025

Cracking JEE Main without coaching isn’t a pipe dream—it’s how many crack the exam, and you can do it too. Self-study isn’t just cheaper; it’s smarter if you’ve got discipline and a plan. I’m not here to sell you fairy tales—JEE’s tough, but it is possible to beat it solo, and here’s the raw truth on how to make it happen.

Start with NCERT books—they’re your foundation. I read every page of Physics, Chemistry, and Math twice, not because I loved it, but because 70% of JEE Main questions pull straight from there. Don’t skip—master the basics; I’d spend 2 hours daily on NCERT, no distractions, just focus.

Math’s your speed ticket—block 2 hours every night for it. I’d tackle 50 problems—quadratics, trigonometry, coordinate geometry—until my brain was wired for numbers. Speed matters; JEE’s a sprint, not a stroll.

Physics needs concepts, not rote—focus on Mechanics and Electricity, my go-to chapters. I’d break down every formula—F = ma wasn’t just letters, it was instinct after 100 practice questions.

Chemistry’s a memory game—Organic reactions were my quick win; I’d memorize 20 a day, flashcards in my pocket, drilling them between classes.

Mock tests are your reality check—once a week, I’d sit for 3 hours, no breaks, full JEE Main setup—180 questions, ticking clock. My first score was rough—around 200—but I’d tear apart every mistake, logging weak spots in a notebook. By the end, I was hitting 300+ consistently—practice, not luck, got me there.

Don’t scatter your focus—pick 5 topics per subject, master them, then expand. My routine was simple: 6 AM wake-up, 1 hour Math, 1 hour Physics, 1 hour Chemistry, 1 hour mocks—rinse, repeat. No fancy apps, no coaching gurus—just me, a desk, and a plan. You don’t need a classroom; you need grit. I went from zero to JEE topper with nothing but books and a cheap pen—those hacks still work.
